Technical Information 3

4.1 Engine and gearbox seals:

As already explained in Mugello, the engine and gearbox seals may only be removed if a written authorisation note has been submitted to the Porsche Pirelli Supercup Organisation (see Porsche Pirelli Supercup regulations 1998, article 6, additional).

At the moment, a check list of tolerance specifications is being prepared which will determine when an engine may be opened (minimum height of the cylinder heads. Maximum diamater of pistons and further tolerances and measurements).

All team managers present were informed, that until this list has been drawn up that we do not want engines to be opened. In the case of a customer nevertheless opening an engine and the authorisation note has been submitted, the customer carries the full risk if the measurements and tolerances are not maintained.

4.2 Vehicle weight

The minimum weight of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup may at no time of an event be lower than 1140 kg. (measured with all fluids on board e.g. cooling fluid, engine oil, gear oil, etc. without fuel).

5. Technical Information 911 GT3 Cup:

The following points are before driving a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to be be strictly observed:

Engine:

It is advisable to drive a slow “in“ lap to cool the engine, brakes and additional vehicle components.

If the car is left running for a long period, the car will overheat as the car is not fitted with electrical fans. When the car is staionary for a long time after driving, the engine cover should be opened. The engine oil temperature should be approximately 80ºC.

Water temperature warning lamp:

When the cooling water level is too low the warning lamp flashes at a rate of 0,5 Hz. (once every 2 seconds).

In the case of the warning lamp being defective, it will flash at 1 Hz. (once a second) and the temperature guage goes to it’s maximum reading.

When the cooling water is too hot the warning lamp stays continuously on.

Gearbox:

Before the car is driven, the gearbox oil level has to be checked. The oil level should be 5 mm. below the

Oil filling hole.

Driveshafts:

New driveshaft bolts (85 Nm.) and new wheel bearing covers (37 Nm.) need to be retorqued after a running time of 50-100 km.

Wheel hub - front and rear axle:

Front and rear axle wheel hubs have to be retorqued after a running time of 50-100 km. The torque value is 490Nm.

Wheel rims:

The seating of wheel valves on all new wheels have to be checked to ensure that they are free of paint.

Brake pads:

New brake pads have to be bedded in (information on request).

Protective meshing for the water cooler:

Due to customer requests, we are checking about fitting water cooler protective meshing.

Enlargement of the brake pedal:

The wish of a few customer requests to enlarge the brake pedal is being looked into. We will shortly offer enlarged brake pedals. Only these pedals can be fitted!

Seat rails and seats:

According to the 1998 technical regulations, article 5, “cockpit“, the original seat may be replaced by another seat, so long as the replacement seat is not lighter than the original. The original mounting (seat rail and console must be kept. The position is free. The original seat fulfills all FIA standards. Porsche is currently looking into the possibility of other seat designs with seat rails and consoles. At the moment, there are no other approved seat/console variants available !

Rear axle anti-roll bar drop links:

On request from a few customers, we are looking into the possibilty of from when an adjustable anti-roll bar will be offered. We’re hoping that this will be ready for the Porsche Pirelli Supercup event in Imola !

Lap trigger for all vehicles:

The Porsche Pirelli Supercup Organisation is looking into supplying a common system that will reduce costs and logistical problems. We will inform you in the near future.

6. Completion of the Porsche Pirelli sticker instructions:

Please be aware of the following completions of the 1998 Porsche Pirelli Supercup sticker instructions:
